The Mini Mac computers, smaller than even some standalone external computer drives, go on sale Jan. 22. They lack a monitor, mouse and keyboard. The 40-gigabyte Mini Mac will cost $499, an 80-gigabyte model $599.
Apple is selling two versions of the iPod Shuffle.
The smallest will have 512 megabytes of storage and cost $99. A one-gigabyte version, which holds 240 songs, will sell for $149. The lowest cost iPod is the mini, which costs $249 for four gigabytes — enough to store about 1,000 songs

Already got a "real" iPod, but I'm all over that mini Mac. Apple's always had great design and that thing is just gorgeous. :D

I have a "real" iPod as you call it too! But the budget iPod is nice for those who don't want to spend $249+ for a mini and above.
The Mac Mini is so nice and tiny! :)

Don't forget: Steve-o also announced iWork (which looks very, very nice). ;)

Wow. That little mac would be perfect for testing websites on. The price seems pretty good aswell for the spec, considering it's new.
I wonder how much it's going to cost in the UK. $499 seems pretty good but we always seem to get shafted in the UK compared to US prices.

From what I can tell, it's going to be £399 in the UK. That's about $750 dollars at the current rate (though to be fair, the dollar isn't worth a lot to the pound now).

I was really pumped with the new iLife 05 - looks great. The photo gallerys got some great new features, and the all blend so we together. And for £49.99 - amazing.
I'm a little sceptical about Pages in iWork - I'm sure most people will stick with Microsoft Office - I know I will.
Here's to the year of HD! :-)

Your life in a small plastic case...........
HA Kinda true, yet I have my iPod safely placed in a protective hard case ;)
On top of that, I have a PowerBook and can't say that I'd ever personally purchase the Mac Mini or any other setup from Apple unless I got heavily into Post Production projects...then I'd have to reconsider ;) Gotta love Final Cut HD and Avid!

I'd love to get my hands on an iPod mini. However, they won't ship it to Israel. More then that, I have the latest iTunes installed (I hate it, I'd rather use winamp, but its a great source for getting mp3's legally and putting them on the iPod) and I get a message saying that the online store is not available in my country "yet".
So even if I will order that iPod mini and have it sent to a friends house and he will resend it with FedEX or something, I still won't be able to properly use it.
As soon as/if I find away around that damn iTunes block I will order a mini. I don't have a us credit card, I tried to signup with paypal and it still asks for a card.
So I'll try to maybe add one of my cards finish the signup and then remove it, heh. (I got spending money in paypal)
But then again maybe it detects I'm from Israel via ip. So I'll have to figure out how to cheat that and use proxy or something.
Damn them.

Try a Dell Jukebox or a Creative Zen?
A way to get around the iTunes thing is to download your paid music from another source, burn them all to DVD and then plug the DVD to import to iTunes..which will import all the songs to the library so you can put it on your Pod ;)
I've mananged to put 98% of my entire cd collection along with the 100+ songs I've gotten from iTunes onto 2 DVD's......

www.proxify.com is what I use for firewalls and other corporate nastiness.
www.anonymizer.com seems to work pretty well for surfing incognito.

Which has reminded me (just in time!) that I need to order Sarah's birthday present. Thanks to a little design job I'm about to undertake, she'll be getting an engraved 20GB iPod.
Which I'll promptly "borrow". Obviously.

ENGRAVED! excellent idea :)
Good to hear you've got some work, am I right in saying you've not had much your way as of late?

Drier than a witch's *cough*...yes, pretty bad lately. But a friend of a friend wants a photography site designed. Done at a discount, of course. Ah well, some money is better than none, of course, and I'm glad of the work. Plus it means I get to be a proper husband and buy my wife a pressie. Fortunately, I don't have to do Valentines Day as well, cos her birthday is the day before. And methinks an iPod should satisfy her. No, an iPod will satisfy her. :)

I'm sure it will be a great birthday present for her :)

Well, it's arrived. I can't quite believe it actually. I checked the FedEx website which stated it had left the point of origin at 7:38pm on the 9th. It arrived here this morning (the 11th) at 7:15am. That's less than two days to get to Houston. Oh, wanna know where it came from? Shanghai!! In about 36 hours!
Oh, and that was with ordinary shipping, not Express. Sheesh!
