I'm hoping to purchase this camcorder (http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-VPC-E1-Waterproof-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B000QSNQ9S/ref=pd_bxgy_p_img_b?ie=UTF8&qid=1192327162&sr=8-3).

It has some fantastic reviews and a friend has had fantastic results when recording videos for his blog.

However, it hasn't been launched in the UK yet.

If I were to purchase this from Amazon.com (and have it delivered to a friend in the US and then shipped to me) would I have any compatibility issues? I can't imagine I would, but if I'm going to spend $425 I want to make sure everything is going to function properly.

When you buy it in the USA it will be a NTSC based camcorder. In Europe you have the PAL/SECAM system. It's possible to convert from one to the other though.
Then, you will receive a 120 V 60 Hz charger and will have to get a 240V 50 Hz charger to use in GB. Maybe the charger is one of those universal ones that can be used from 100 - 250 V and 50 - 60 Hz in which case you only need a different plug.

I'd check with the manuyfacturer or on camcorder forums about how to deal with the NTSC - PAL/SECAM thingy. The charger problem is simple to solve. :)

Dang! I never even thought about that. :(

Thanks Gerrit! I guess I'll hunt out a camcorder forum, or hunt for a different camera.
