View Full Version : A question about pop-ups & IE

I frequent a forum where a lot of folks loiter on a free (Bravenet) board. Since this board is free it uses pop-up ads to support it. A lot of the members are using Internet Exploder and are complaining about the pop-ups. I thought I'd tell them how to disable JS in IE to avoid the pop-ups. I couldn't find a way to do that. I found a way to disable Java but didn't bother with that.

My question is, how do you disable Javascript in IE or is it even possible? I have IE6 but other posters may be using earlier versions.

To the moderators: I'm not posting this simply to earn a higher ranking and I'm serious about a solution to this problem.

In the future I'd like to post a joke or something just for a comic relief but it would never be just to increase my rank. I honestly don't give a twit about the rank and if a mod ever knocks my number of posts back to zero you'll never hear a complaint from me.

I'm posting this here because I couldn't find a more appropriate place for this question. How about a "different software" or "browser specific" category?

Tools > Internet options > Security > Select 'Internet', Click Custom Level, scroll down and it says 'Use Pop-up Blockler', tell them to enable that.

That will allow JS and stop most popups. To disable JS, as far as I know, scroll a little further down below the pop-up blocker bit and it should say 'Active Scripting', disable that (Although I don't recommend doing so).

Alternatively, you could get them to install a decent browser located at www.getfirefox.com

Umm, George, there's nothing wrong with your question, and rank doesn't really mean anything anyway. Don't sweat it :)

Thank you Paul, I'll pass it along. I just didn't spend enough time with IE to dig through all the ... well ... garbage to find it.

I've preached till I'm out of breath about alternative browsers but to no avail. I always surf with OP7 and really love that browser. But some folks just don't want to change, or are afraid to change.

Laziness is why they don't want to. To spend 2 minutes installing something that's secure and more stable is to long in most peoples books, others just don't know what they're doing.
