Hmm, interesting spec' to say the least.

I hope it will be approved and implemented, and I sure hope IE7 will support it.

Well, IE is the only browser that doesn't provide quick updates when new technology is announced. Plus this is a working draft, not a candidate, and even though it's being headed up by Ian Hickson, it's not a W3C construct either. I'm not saying it won't become a spec, but if it's not around ample time before the release of IE7, it will be another 5-6 years before we can even think about using it, and another 10-12 years before old browsers that do not support it can be safely ignored.

Yap, guess so. But the reason I'm so over-optimistic is because of the promised change in IE. They say it will support standards, I hear its even going to have tabs, theres a new team... yadi yadi ya.
Could it not be possible for this to be pushed thru and become a spec prior to the release of IE7 which is 2-4 years away? And can we not hope for more collaboration on the new IE's part?

hahahahaha
Sorry lol, that really did make me laugh
It would be nice to see this technology brought in as a 'standard' and Ian Hickson putting this forth to the W3C. Time will tell ;)

Boy, I hope not! I thought it was 12-18 months now, to be released with Longhorn, which they cannot afford to hold up for too long!

Actually, word on the street is MS called in a bunch of Opera guys to consult on their new browser. They didn't hire them away from Opera; they just hired them temporarily from them. Maybe there's hope...

Yea I heard about this, but then why would Microsoft plaster over their site that you can't access some parts using an "inferior" browser? Messed up to say the least, however I would like to see Microsoft release a decent browser and save us 'kids' the frustration and the oh so fun IE bashing :)

Longhorn will be released at 2006 at best, more probable as late as 2007.
So far they missed almost every deadline set on it and for a good reason too.
They are running into a lot of problem, they scraped the plans they had for a new file system (WinFS (http://news.com.com/New+file+system+has+long+road+to+Windows/2100-1016_3-5487641.html?part=rss&tag=5487641&subj=news.1016.5 )) and I wouldn't rush to release it if I was them.
The hardware specs they have for it are absolutely crazy, some of it even non-existent for now. Now you go and convince joe average that he needs to buy a totally new computer, and an expensive one at that, to run their new OS.
Not to mention corporations and organizations.
This is all by the way wonderful news for Mozilla, Linux and open-source software at large. Longhorn is very likely to backfire and drive people away , and Microsoft knows this. (or better yet, I hope they dont realize it)
