Now I know that a lot of you use Firefox. I do not want to get into that debate :)

But I had one of my hosting clients call me. He states that he was looking at his page in a few seconds later, it went to www.whitehouse.gov

I told him to blame Bush (which he does), but have y'all heard something about this? Of course, we do not provide thrid party support, but I usually try to help my customers. Have y'all heard of anything like this? (He does tell me he has never been to this website before.)

Thanks!

There is ad/spy/malware that is able to function browser-independent. FireFox is better at stopping malicious Web sites from placing this stuff on your computer in the first place, but once you have it, it's possible for it to be affected as well. I watched in awe about a year ago as ZestyFind popped up ads in Opera I had just installed on my parents' computer. It's uncanny...

Hm, and these clients are - well one is about 53 & the husband is 78. I might just end up going over there to actually fix it for them.

I've heard of that happening when spyware/adware is installed. Unless his page has a redirect to that site, then my guess is it's because of a spyware or malware issue. It's odd that its directing to that website though! Are you sure it was whitehouse.gov and not whitehouse.org?

First thing I would try is downloading adaware and spybot search and destroy and running some spyware checks, removing anything nasty it finds. I think that might sort out his problem.

This really made me laugh

If you ever open IE run these 2 often, DSO exploits are just one of a few things that come from just opening the browser :)
