View Full Version : Reducing MPEG File Size

I have three videos from my trip to Isle of Wight. They are in the MPEG format.
Does anybody have any tips for reducing their size, yet keeping the quality?
I have tried a few free converters to avi but they are always limited in some way, and besides, it seems avi makes the file size huge.
Would it be best to import the movie in to flash and change it to a .swf file? If so, would some kind sole be able to do this for me, as I don't have access to flash.
Beware, file sizes range from 5mb to 12mb, so you will have to be prepared to download a large zip file if you are kind enough to convert them to flash.
You know you want to see these videos, I mean, you can't beat seeing Jamie swinging on a tree swing, then hear his old man screaming with pain when he decided to have a go.

Are these for your personal use Jamie? If they are, I would convert it to AVI, I would be more then happy to :D and then encode it with a 3rd party encoder, my favorite personally being DivX. Have you tried something like that yet?

They are to show you lot over the Web. :D So, they need to be small. MPEG works just fine to show offline, but these need to be online.
Photos are going up as I type, but the videos need to be there as well, just for the laugh. :)

I would try something like this (http://www.video-converter.net/download.htm) (I'm voting they get a new design :vomit: ) but I would then convert it to WMV, since most can play it and I believe the compression is very high while the quality is decent.

I tried that Tyler, it has a limit of converting just the first 50% of the file. :(

That's where they get you at! Have you tried this one (http://www.mp3towav.org/Fx-Video-Converter/) I would think a trial would do the entire movie...I hope! :?

Convert it to Flash. This is definitely the best way to go :D

Is there any way you could upload the raw footage to your server and give me FTP access to them?

I'll zip them all up in to one file Vito, and upload them for you. Thanks a lot Vito. :) <Jamie hops over to increase his disk space>
