Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a shared hosting account for an upcoming project. I won't need too much in the way of resources, but I do need SSH access. Here are my requirements:

200 Mb. disk space
6 Gb. throughput
30 email addresses (pref. unlimited)
30 subdomains (pref. unlimited)
PHP/CGI/SSH
CPanel preferred, but they'll adapt to any decent control panel

Reliability is key. They will pay a reasonable price for solid uptime. And SSH is a must.

Let's see what y'all got!

you can check out this site:

http://www.ait.com/compareplanspricing.php?AITSessID=206316ac462670db c5842a3370043481

and look at Business #2 Plan for $18.95 US Per Month + $39 Setup fee. At the very bottom of the page, it says you can upgrade to unlimited subdomains (they call them virtual hosts) for an additional $29.95 US per month

This is the host that I have my space on, The Town of Stewiacke has the account and I just have some of their space. They have had this account for over 2 years now without any problems and the support staff have been quite quick at answering any questions they have asked.

Cheers, Ross

I do hosting myself. My sh500 plan would be ideal for your project's needs. Here's (http://www.sonichosting.us/hosting/sh500/) a link directly to the plan's specs. I have a control panel demo set up if you want to check that out as well (PM for info) - it's InterWorx.

Also, I'd be willing to waive the monthly fee for SSH access (this is due mainly to the security risks of allowing SSH - the monthly fee tends to discourage malicious users) if the client would choose annual billing.

ModernBill is giving me some issues at the moment, so if you would like to pursue this, let me know via PM or email.

Your offer beats the hell out of the link I posted, I will be passing on your name to our Town Adminsistrator for possibly changing Hosts.

I appreciate it Ross. I'm rather small now - only hosting about half a dozen client sites, but I'm starting to make a push to garner more "outside" clients. Most of what I host now are clients from my development business, and a couple friends.

Thank you sonic and sonia for your responses. Please remember SSH is a priority - I won't even consider hosting this client without it. Thanks for your PM responses sonic. We'll talk more.

We normally don't allow SSH but we can allow the same for you. We do make exceptions sometime :)

We normally don't allow SSH

Just like us. We advertise no SSH on our site for any of our hosting plans, simply because of the security implications - the more privileges you grant a client, the more likely someone is to abuse those priveleges.

However, we look at each case individually should someone want SSH. :)

Paul, I didn't reply to this with Kinkamono's offerings simply because of the CPanel preferred. I know others here offer CPanel, and we're an Ensim house, so others can make a more compelling case than I.

Having said that, Tim's not had any complaints with Kinkamono so far. ;)

Thanks sonia and zope. My general policy is everything being reasonably equal, I'll go with the first response. sonic's running Interworx, and I don't find Ensim objectionable. CPanel is probably the lowest priority - it's just a point of familiarity for the client, and they'll have no problem making the slight adjustment to using a different but similar system.

zope, I may already have my questions answered, but feel free to post what you have. Maybe it'll be useful to someone else if not me :)

I'll post our offerings when the Kinkamono redesign is complete. Something you may be hearing more about in other forums shortly. :)

Paul, I thought you offered webhosting yourself?

Paul, I thought you offered webhosting yourself? Yes, I resell HostGator, but they don't allow SSH and the client specifically needs this. Like the old saying goes, there's no best host, just the right one for the job, and I ain't the right one for the job this time ;)

I have another piece to all of this I just discovered last night. The customer may be using the account to serve up large files for downloads, video/audio of Jeff doing interviews and giving speeches. This means the bandwidth requirement goes up significantly.

They are currently paying $25/mo. for their provider. They get a ton of resources (12 Gb. space, 100 Gb. bandwidth), but they get very little in the way of administrative control. I believe they do not have access to a database server of any kind either.

They will never use that much bandwidth or HD space...ever. 30-40 Gb. would be sufficient, and I'd be surprised if they topped 1 Gb. total files. Matching that budget (or better), what can you offer?
