Talks at the United Nations appear to have failed to avert a new U.N. confrontation over a U.S.-led drive to ban all cloning of human embryos including for stem cell research, diplomats said Thursday.
I dont think a ban on stem cell research should be put into place because of everything it could help to cure.
It could bring about, after many years research, cures to things such as Cancer, Heamophilia, Other hereditary diseases, aswell as other viruses such as AIDS. I think they should allow the testing.
What does everyone else think ?

I am totally for stem cell research myself. It is sad to say but I was hoping that the death of Christopher Reeve or Ronald Reagan would change a few things or even Nancy Reagan might talk some sense into Bush.

But its against the almighty god. Its wrong and we will all burn in hell.
It kills me to see idiots in power.

Definately allow it. I don't think it's the U.S' place to ban such breakthroughs in science.

No, it isn't, but when the people of this country elect the religious right, this the kind of stuff that comes from that administration.
Personally, I'm all for it. However, I'm considering moving to Canada after the outcome of the elections. I just have to find a job up there and I'm all set. ;)

And ill stay right here. Politics baffle me, how there all so simple minded, stem cell research would save millions of lives every year, but because some almighty unseen, probably non-existent being has wrote down in a book, which he didnt right, that its wrong, then they wont do it?
But whos anyone to say that those people should just die quietly when they have the means to cure them?

I'm not terribly concerned about stem cell research not going forward. The same arguments went around about cloning, and on top of the many animals that have been cloned experimentally, human tissue has been successfully cloned multiple times. Science marches forward, through political administrations, lobbyists, protests and demonstrations.

There's quite a big leap between mere demonstrations and protests and an outright ban on the research though.
Anything will still go on through protests, demonstrations, lobbying, etc. A ban is a little more permanent and has a more personal effect on the people involved (i.e. prison time).

But globally? A global ban will be impossible to enforce.

i can undertsand about cloning humans completely, which i guess it what there worried about, but just the tissue to clone vital organs for people who need them should be allowed.
They wont ban it globally, and i would put money on the u.s using the stem cell research other countrys use, even if just to cure them, either that or u.s citizens in need would go elsewhere for the treatment they need.
