View Full Version : Color problem going from Photoshop to Fireworks

I have received some images in .ai format, and I need to use them as .jpg in Fireworks. I don't have Adobe Illustrator, but I do have Photoshop CS. So I opened an .ai file in PS. I then saved as .jpg at maximum quality. But then when I open the jpg in Fireworks, it is a completely different color. What am I doing wrong?

On the other hand, in PS, if I go File>Save For Web, the colors maintain OK. So that's good, but am I not sacrificing some quality in the image when saving for web? How can I "save as" and still keep consistent colors?

Vito, according to that screenshot, the fireworks is in Bitmap mode, can you change this to any other mode?

There are two images at the above link, one is a jpeg and the other png

When I open the jpg in FW, it automatically opens in in bmp mode. If I double click the image, it exits bmp mode, but the colors are still off.

Vito, do you have the file so i can see how it opens in my fireworks?
Are you opening the file, or importing it?

Yes, I have the file. How can I send it to you?
And I am opening the image, not importing it.

Try importing it if not e-mail me the file to me

Nope. Still looks green-ish rather than the original grey.
I'm sending you the ai and jpg now.
Thanks for your help.

No Problem

Well, that's just really bizarre, Danny. You apparently saw no difference in the jpg on your computer. So that would suggest I have a "color" issue on mine. Yet, the png you just sent me is the proper color. I would think that if it was a color setting on my computer, I would see the green-ish tint in all files. But I don't. It's hit and miss.
Somewhere in here, there's some logical explanation.

I agree, im sure FW has a color setting that is changing the output?
Or is the culprit Photoshop for saving as something else?
Does my help allow you to carry on with your work? Or do you need to work this out before you continue?
BTW, Who drew the images?

Yes, you have helped, Danny. Thanks. :)
castlemelody.com created this image for me. In fact, this is one of 10 different poses for Babu that I will be using in the new demodemo site redesign.

I'm reasonably sure the culprit is Photoshop. I've had some major color palette issues converting between Illustrator and Photoshop, which should be absolutely seamless. I've had different readings come up using Pantone colors before. This is one of those little factors that keeps me from using Photoshop for Web projects.
If you're ever absolutely stuck, you can try exporting the image as a high res bitmap (tif or even bmp). That might open properly in FW. As a last resort (a last resort I use all the time), you could hit print screen and paste the screen into FW. It's a crude method, but it saves me a lot of aggrevation. That's how Pinnacle Chiropractic came into being ;)

Heh, maybe I should just get my 11 year old daughter to teach me all she knows about PS, then I can scrap FW altogether and my problems are solved. ;)

Wow, Vito did you pay $100 per illustration?
Im in the wrong business!
Also, do you run demodemo?

No, that's his regular rate, but I paid $40 per illustration, based on volume order and recent promotion.
And yes, I own demodemo.com. :)
