I have some FLV files which I am able to successfully display on my site without problems. However, I have a customer who is having difficulty. I have uploaded the files to his site (Linux server). When I point to the htm file that calls the player swf file, I can see that it connects, since it displays other elements such as a logo and some xml directives. But for some reason, when clicking to play the FLVs, it doesn't.

Is there some type of server configuration we need to address?

Thanks for your help.

Hmm. I might be close to solving this.

Is there an easy way to tell if my customer's site is on a Linux server or a Windows server (aside from asking him, of course)? I had assumed it was on Linux but I'm thinking I assumed wrong.

Aha!

I did a lookup on the site and found that they were indeed on a Windows server. The problem is solved here:

Macromedia knowledge base (http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?event=view&id=KC.tn_19439&extid=tn_19439 &dialogID=3421262&iterationID=1&sessionID=963029fe 3302$3FN$3FW&stateID=0%200%203425364&mode=advanced )

(It's fun solving stuff on my own... :) )

Ah..Seems you already found a way of checking. If you had to look for this information mentioned on your customers site itself, for future reference the netcraft survey site can tell you what software a server is running and is very easy to use.

http://news.netcraft.com/

Just put the domain name into the 'what's this site running' box in the top left and it'll tell you what OS version etc. is running on the box servicing that domain.

You may already know about this by now, but just incase you did something different to find out, you might find this site helpful in the future (or other members might find it helpful to know perhaps).

Thanks very much. Actually, I just did a lookup at www.domainwhitepages.com and scrolled down to network info. :)

That looks like a good tool for IP lookups (I usually use geektools for that but lately they request that you enter one of those image codes which is a bit of a pain).

Thanks for the link. Just added it to my tools folder :)
